Black-Top Zetec Q please

The usual - my mate has a mate, who nows someone, who's neighbours dog has a mondeo for scrapping (rear acc damage allegedly).

Now supposedly this is a "W" reg with a black top motor.

Being W reg means a CAT should be fitted, but that aside, what BHP do/should these produce in -

a/ Std mondeo form?

b/ in a 7 esq car with bike TB's and aftermarket programmable ECU?

Sorry to you guys for keeping on throwing in these zetec questions, but I'm really struggling with finding any info on the NET about what fits what etc for the mondeo/zetec.

Some imput on this would really really be appreciated.

Cheers

Romer

dont really know what i'm talking about but...

it should be around 130bhp as standard

bike throttle bodies and megasquirt setup properly should release in the 160bhp+ region.

This guy's made 168bhp at the fly. good read that thread.

Dont get too stuck on the later engine as it will need a cat which in the end will reduce the slight power advantage anyway...The early cars are so cheap now that you can run them for a while before nicking the engine (most of which are fine anyway).

Loads of good pre cat engines to choose from and the first level of modding is to change the cam and port the head so the benefit of the earlier head is ofset anyway.

In answer to the questions....130BHP and 160-170bhp.

Good luck.

Also dont panic and pay over the odds for the 2l.

The 1.8l with carbs cams ect will give only 10 bhp less than the 2l .It will have less torque but its going in a car that weights around 500kg anyway. So you should still end up with the best part of 250-300 bhp per ton.

Zetecs are known if serviced regualy to be good for upto 200k. Prices are cheaper for the 1.8l and if you get one from an escort/orion you will need less parts to get it in a 7.

I picked up a 1.8l zetec this week for £50 that inclueded the car, 5 alloy wheels and mot till x-mas well pleased (Thanks Jim ) I have a good 2l zetec But my aim for this one is to get it ready for a 7 complete with injection without spending any money ( well I will service it ) and that will still get me around 200bhp per ton

How much does your friend of a friend want for his motor ? As this is the cheap bit in putting a zetec in a 7.

imho

Hi, thanks for those answers guys.
Looks like I'll probably wait for a silver-top to come up at the right price - at this moment in time I'd rather a 2.0ltr than 1.8.
As for black-top price, I won't know until later in the week if Brian's seen Fred, who was to see Phil when/if they were playing darts etc - probably won't know for a week
What would be a right price for it to be a contender - £200???????

Cheers
