Sierra wheel offset?

Can anyone tell me what the correct offset is for a Ford Sierra. Im looking at new 15" wheels and am getting conflicting answers of 35 and 40.
The new wheels are for the Locost of course

Hi Scoop,

I've just had a look at website http://www.alloywheelsinternational.com/FORD.html and you are right, they quote as you said. Perhaps it is the Ford build tolerance!!

Not much help I'm afraid. It may depend on the model. Perhaps best is to measure for yourself.

Cheers

John

Never been to scrap a yard armed just with a tape measure before.
Many thanks,

This is generally quoted as 35 - 38...
3mm offset will make b***er all differance
35 offset will stick out 3mm further than 38 offset. (1/8"
Will make B***er all differance to scrub radius either.

I just had a thought about Sierra wheels. Somewhere at the back of my mind I seem to remember that a large offset will dull the steering/handling of the car. I believe that the Sierra wheels are the same offset as the front wheel drive Mondeo. I think sharpness comes with less offset, something like et23. I have a feeling that MK11 Escorts were in this region.

I may be talking out of the back of my neck and I'm sure someone will confirm this!!

I have had this with my Rally car, Sierra offset is 40mm and the confusion is compounded in that the escort cosworth wheels are at et35.. the offset is set in relation to the hub and the wheel bearing so it will have no effect on your handling unless you run a diffrent offset to what the suspension was designed to have..

MK2 escort run an et Zero..

Hope that helps.

Andrew

my sierra was delivered with et30 wheels.

As i'm using the uprights of the cortina front I presume I have to have ET20 wheels or use 10 mm spacer.

Rear will be IRS so rear track 151 cm.

I have a steel rim catalog that quote Sierra ET to 41mm.

That will give you a scrub radius of about 90-100mm.
