Rolling over ali on rear

I've put on the rear ali panel but its a bit untidy on the top corners. I cut a few 'v's in it, but it's still prettu lumpy and marked.

So what's the best method of getting a better finish. Can you file it down and then use a series of grades on wet & dry? Or should I have just got it neater in the first place!

BTW, really looks like a car now with the rear panel and wings on, I'll put a few pics up tomorrow.

When i did it, i found that it was a bit lumpy so I gave it a going over with a flap whell in a drill. This made it look a lot better.

Although I didnt do this I think the best way to do it would be to cut v's in it so that it meets perfectly when it has been beaten over and then tig weld the edges of the v's together. Then go over it with a flap wheel. This will look perfect, like they do on caterhams!

mine looked a little lumpy too.

All I did was to file the lumps down to get a neat result.

Me too - various files, down to my finest one, then wet n'dry until it looked nice. Finished off with a Scotchbrite so that it matched the rest of the brushed ali.

Just don't forget that you've only got 1-and-a-bit millimetre to play with!
