Tin top insurance for a young gun
Any one out there had decent sensible quotes for a 17 year old guy lately??
Young lad is nearing that age and it looks like sexual equality does not exist in the insurance world. They want £900 for a 1.1 pug 206 OR an extra
600 on the wifes policy for a 1.2 clio. Seems I'm " out of touch with reality " thinking that he'd be able to get somewhere
around the 6/700 quid mark in his own name.
If it looks wrong it probably is wrong.

I'm afraid that is pretty cheep!
Mine was £1700 for a 1.1 M reg fiesta fully comp in my own name 4 years ago!
Went down to £1300 with Pass plus but still, and thats in a pretty quiet suberb of Leeds.
That was with Direct Line at the time.. I even got a 5 door car because it was cheeper to insure!

Yep, that is a very good quote!
Sadly, statistics show that there are many more insurance claims involving the male 17-20 age group than for females of the same age group.

yep thats very good...mine last year (17 year old) on a 1.3 2003 punto diesel was £1900 third party fire n theft. As my 18th present this year i was
allowed fully comp which set my parents back £1400. That was on my own policy with direct line.
Other quotes i had last year ranged up to £8k with admiral.

A 17 year old lad that bought my old fiesta 1.1 popular plus for £300 a few years ago was paying £60 per month

I'll second Quinn direct eldest lad been with them for a couple of years and the youngest 17 next month been quoted £960 ish for 1.25 fiesta
(1998) cheapest he could find.

Mmmm Quinns quote him for a 1.2 clio at circa £1500.
BUT a very good quote indeed to add him to swmbo's clio.

i found elephant.co.uk to be the cheapest, ok so its been many moons since i was 17, but give them a shot, and put his mum (or any woman) as second
driver, and you'll find it lowers the quote. don't know if you'll get £6-700 though.
but yeah, any female as the 2nd driver. thats what i did and it lowered mine by about £150 from whatit woud have been in just my name. thats for a 24
year old in a 1995 BMW 328 coupe

i found that Cis is cheap for 17year old boys, i got a qoute for £35 a month, when tesco's whanted £1600 in one lump for the same car.

2 years ago our young un wanted a scooby (why im not sure)
he was 21, the cheapest quote was £1600 third party, which i didn't think was too bad !
so with out checking he went out and bought a mitsu evo 2, nice car,
went for an insurance quote ( he was thinking it would be around the same price)
C I S was the cheapest
cheapest quote to come back was £4000
third party !
so now hes on my traders policy ,
so lesson 1 always check,
as it now cost a fortune for traders policy !

As said, put yourself or your wife down as second driver. They work out that 50% of the time your wife will be driving and of course is less risk. I
still have my parents even though my dad is too scared to drive my car (apparently its too big  ) drops my insurance by £300 (im 21)
How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

mine works out at £130 a month
so its not cheap, but as you can drive anything you want,
the more people the more cost there is !
no charged more for 1 or 10 cars !
only charged more for drivers under 25 !
and you have to tell them what cars they
drive ! (which makes sense ) and then the cost goes up, but hes on it as business and pleasure ,they wouldnt let him go on it for just pleasure!
