BEC Anyone looking to sell??

Hi all,

My name is Ian and i am looking for a new weekend fun car. as from about a month ago, I use to own a classic subaru impreza that was putting out just over 450 bph and 400 lbft. but it spent most of the time in the garage and only out on the odd day. with the amount i paid in insurance, tax, fuel etc i thought that it was about time to move onto something different, so it has gone to a new owner who is going to use her as a track car.

from what i can tell, up to about 100mph a bec will be about the same as my old car, but with x10000 better handling :-)

I am looking for a bec, something that i can use on the road and that i do not need to fix up to get it there. I would like to have a full cage, and reverse. the cage is more important though. wet gear would be a +

From what i have been reading on here the R1 engine is a good power supply with a dry sump as standard? if so, i would like to go that way.

I have around 6k to spend and a little more if needed (allmost the same as a older thread by someone else on the forum)

I have been looking through this forum, pistonheads, ebay but have not really found anything.

many thanks
Ian

No sorry, Just sold my V8 Viento, so no kit car at the moment.

Nearest kit meets are the GS7 (stevenage) who neet just south of Baldock. (easy to get to)
And the East Anglian lot who meet out near Diss.
Another good bunch run by Piddy (Piddy on LCB).

Not the time of the year for Kit car outings!

Perhaps we might meet up one day.

Cheers

I wouldnt discount a Car engined seven to be honest, i think more reliability is key, not having to worry about oil problems etc..

I've found a CEC seven with only 130bhp to be quicker round a track than any subaru/evo etc.. + It feels quicker because your open to the elements..

However maybe im being slightly biast as i'm trying to sell my CEC road car.

There are loads of posts on this topic if you want to search for them!

From a quick search for 'what engine' in the BEC section:

http://locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=176187
http://locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=174287
http://locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=173877
http://locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=173247
http://locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=154198
http://locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=148311
http://locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=143572

That should keep you going...!

As for directly ansering your queries:
- R1 does not normally need dry sumping (and it does certainly not come as standard!). It is a very well known engine, and usually just requires a sump chop, and baffle (caveat - engines up to 2003)
- £6k will get you a BEC, but you might struggle to get a reverse and cage (you are redcuing the number of cars that you could consider as suitable), so it really depends on what specification you want, and which manufacturer you choose
- any 1 litre of more modern bike engine will really shift in a light car, and most have now been tried and tested (fireblade, R1, GSXR1000, Busa, ZX9, Zx10, ZX12, ZX14) there are pros and cons of each. Plenty of info on this site to understad what those pros and cons are... My car now runs a ZX12, and it goes like stink!

Have you been in bike engined car yet?

the person at the top isnt selling anymore. there are a couple of members on here who have offered me some different bec, but i keep thinking it would be safer with a full cage over a roll bar.

with rain/weather covers, can you get them of most of the different cars?

thanks
ian

Ian to be honest, most people with a bike engined car dont have a windscreen, let alone wet weather gear! From experience, driving them in the rain is quite hairy, so I tend to take mine out on fine days, and try to avoid the downpours. If I am going out in the rain, waterproofs are sufficient.

With a bike engine, light weight is crucial, and wet weather gear, plus windscreen, plus wipers etc will all add significant weight to the car...

If you really want them, then yes, you can get custom made wet weather gear made for your car, but again you will need a windscreen for that...

I'll probably be selling mine in the new year - R1 Bec. No full cage though and no reverse, but it would be under your budget so you could use the spar cash to get a cage put in...
