RIP Rik Mayall

Shocked to hear this. So young. One of my all time favourites.

Possibly the best scene in all the blackadders and so many of the funniest one liners i can think of:

A true great and one of my favourite comedians.

The Young Ones is one of those things that's right up there in my first memories of things I watched on TV (possibly some parenting issues there as I was very young - but in fairness the language wasn't bad and there's a lot more jokes I 'get' now watching re-runs!). I particularly liked the one where they went on University Challenge.

Does anyone remember The Dangerous Brothers? A bit of a precursor to Bottom in many ways - the comedy and slapstick is very similar.

But Lord Flashheart really was one of the best characters he did in my book - "treat your plane like you treat your woman, get inside her 3 times a days and take her to heaven and back - woof!"

Younger than your average LCB I rememeber coming back from scouts every friday night to watch red dwarf followed by bottom.

there is no doubt that rick mayall is partially responsible for my humour and personality.

My best mate and I still commonly recite whole bottom live sketches.

Really gutted about him and that he could not contribute to british tv later in his life.

Bottom was very clever a whole 5 minutes on 'the mag's faj' makes me smile just thinking about it. he was one of the people on my theoretical 'best night down the pub'.

Gutted as been a fan since 'young ones' bottom live DVD is a must to remember the timing genius.

RIP Myall and thanks for the laughs to the point of tears, you will never know how your comedy affected a young lad from a quiet Yorkshire village!

A lasting favourite the age when get the 'Mousey Mousey Mousey Ooooo I am going to be sick '

Me and the wife were just saying the same thing, and she doesn't even like much comedy.

I sort of picked up his roles in reverse, things like Blackadder goes 4th and the jackanory of georges marvellous medicine, then bottom, blackadder II, and finally the young ones. Theres of course more! But there the ones that really stick in my memories.
One liners like .'but I havent got a beard' and 'thats bloody good eddie' were on repeat with my mates in our lessons at school

Talking of one liners. A couple that pop into my head on a daily occurrence and I use if I can.

"Ha ha, you missed both of my legs!"

"Steep Eddie? thats f'ing vertical"

(answering the phone) "4444444"

(Dialling a number) "thats a bit of luck, I dont know what the f*ck I dialed!"

(What shall we do now?) "HAVE A W&NK!"

very sad, the only 2 deaths in the past 15 years years or so that I felt a sense of genuine loss over were Rik and John Peele....

A friend of mine was once on a train to London from Manchester and as it was for work he was in first class, it was very quiet and there was only one other person in the carriage, as time went on and the journey dragged on the other guy knodded to my mate and came over to say he was going to buy a beer and would my friend like one, my mate said yes and that it was very kind and the guy disappeared off down the carriage, when he came back with the beer they sat for a very enjoyable couple of hours just chatting and laughing and watching the countryside go by ......... That lovely friendly guy was Rik Mayall and needless to say my mate is gutted.
