EMPLOYER LISTS BY EMPLOYEE NUMBERS

Possibly a strange question, but one of my sons is doing a project and as part of that he needs to compile a list of employers by number of people employed.
This is for a given area (but I'm not sure which area, possibly Middlesborough or Newcastle).
We've both tried Google but with no success.
Does anyone have any ideas or already had to do this themselves and can recommend a possible website with this info (pref for free)?

Cheers

Romer

This kind of data is compiled and closely guarded by companies like Onesource. You might get a free trial off them?

It's a matter of seconds to get the info if you find someone with a subscription to this or something similar.
