Emerald fault

Or so I think,

After driving 200 hundred miles to Stoneleigh I park the car which drove without a glitch, and left it for a few days, It's been nice so I thought I would take it for a spin today.

The engine turns over but that's it The fuel pump used to charge when the ignition was on but now it doesn't, the fuel pump runs if you bye pass the relay

I'm at a complete loss, And the car is really Pi**ing me off, One problem after the other!!

Any suggestions (apart from scrap the thing) greatly recieved.

has it got an intertia fuel cutoff switch hidden somewhere?.

have you tried bypassing the fuel pump relay, then trying to start it??.

I have tried turning it over with the fuel pump bye passed, the pump runs but the engine doesn't start. I can't even see a spark, so I replaced the coil pack.

Check the Crank position sencor if it has one, It will need that to tell it when to spark.

Check the timing transducer. If it is not functioning, or its wiring is faulty, the ecu won't get pulses and therefore will not turn on the fuel pump or sparks as the engine is turned over on the starter.

Ok all sorted,

it was all my fault

Some how a wire had come away behind the dash

Thanks again, sorry be a pain in the ass

If the pump does not do its initial charge on switching on then either its not getting its lectric or its not being sent. Sounds like the ECU is sulking. Has it blown its supply fuse? If you connect up your laptop does it see it and are the settings and maps OK?

Easy check with the Emerald is to see if the LED on the case goes green when cranking, if not it is not seeing the flywheel trigger source...

Emerald doesn't need a cranking signal to 'prime' the fuel pump - it will always power the pump for a few seconds when switched on.

ps - this was no fault of Emerald!

I had exactly the same thing last year - engine just stopped running for no reason. Turned out the Emerald earth wire had gone walkies from the loom...

The most un-reliable things in electrical circuits tends to be connectors.

Whenever anything goes wrong with anything electric, first step is to check connections. Crimps dont always make 100%, Wire break with vibrations, and if its older corosion affects the contacts.

Next least reliable is polyester capacitors.

Generally anything thats printed circuit based is much much less likely to fail unless it been shorted / got wet etc.
