carpeting
Hi peeps,
Do most people carpet their cars themselves?
Are there companies which will do this for me?
Would you say it was possible to easily and within a short space of time (as we all know cost is inversely proportional to time on our
cars  ) have my car carpeted for less than £300?
ETA - I'm just after that normal thin black carpeting stuff, no pockets or anything fancy. Yellow stitching at the most.

Why cant you do it? 300 will carpet it in shaggy wool pile..or axeminster.

Not concerned about the extra weight, as we all know the Dax isn't the lightest of the sevens anyway  . Theres some chips on the tunnel and
some EXTREMELY suspect fibreglass alterations to the end of the drivers foot well panel that I'd like to cover up.
Main reason I'd like to avoid doing it myself is that I can't even wrap a CD at christmas so the thought of stitching well sized bits of
carpet together and making the necessary releving cuts etc fills me with dread!

i see your chips and dodgy glass work, and raise you rust stains and a cardboard seat. So there.
ps, i found it a lot lighter with no seats, dash, tunnel cover etc.

Bad move, you will regret it.. Polish out any blemishes or hide them by putting something over it such as tax disc or pocket

Hmm so I'm guessing from the responses that I should just buy 50m2 of black carpet and try my very hardest?
Could someone at least tell me how people attach it? Contact adhesive?
Should I just do each face slightly oversize then stitch them all together so I end up with a shaped piece of carpet for the two passenger
compartments, the tunnel and the rear bulkhead?

Better than scratched ally floor panels, dodgy chipped GRP edges and chassis members to look at surely?

The problem comes when you are trapped out in the rain. The carpet absorbs water like a sponge and stays damp for weeks.
If you must, don't glue it in, use poppers to keep it down. That way you can at least take it out and dry out the car/carpet.

I made carboard templates of the panels, and just used carpet spray adhesive £3 a can, leave it for a few minutes till it's just tacky (Sticks
like SH*T)

Not got carpets myself, but I remember seeing a tip in Which Kit? or some such: for the floor bits, make slightly undersized templates from thin ply
sealed with PVA or something, then glue the carpet onto the plywood and fold over the edges, glueing and stapling the folded over bits as well. That
way, if it does rain, you can remove them for drying out.

Mines carpeeted, so much nicer that painted metal evrywhere
Also , when it gets wet, drys in a few hours, so not a problem

I use this for paneling the boot instead of ally, don't see why you can't use it instead of

Carpeting
Use adhesive from wickes (you have to ask for it) I used the orange piping to stick to the carpet. The sides are stuck to thin ply and velco'ed
into place so I can remove them if I like.
Just take your time cutting each piece out and make small cuts at a time and re-measure.
Helps if you get her in doors to mess with the sticky stuff!!!

i'd be worried about the water trapping rain water and rusting the chassis or other steel bits
