Testing Megasquirt VR Pickup

Does the Megastim RPM potentiometer simulate the VR pickup?

Finally got my hoses fitted today, and tried to start first time, but it wasnt picking up an RPM or Crank status at all now.

Checked the cabling, and its getting to the megasquirt, so its either the ECU (After my magic smoke moment) or the sensor, but i have tried a few weeks ago, and it used to show "Cranking" status before.....

It's just a variable frequency pulse so it simulates a distributor signal rather than the missing tooth signal you'd get from a trigger wheel and VR sensor.

the jimstim has a jumper for 12volt pull up which makes it simulate a vr. is it not the same on yours?

Good point, the Jimstim does emulate trigger wheels. I kind of assumed the OP was talking about the original one which is much more basic (based on a 555 timer).

What pulse conditioning are you using? i.e. which megasquirt.

You can simulate the VR using the sound card of your PC.

Here:

I have not tried it.

Check continuity (something like 50-500Ohm would be good). And then 'scope the VR if you can.

I can switch between PNP and NPN on the RPM Potentiometer.

What i have notices now, is that I1 and I2 LEDS alternate, where as i didnt notice this before.

Details of my MS are;

MS2 V1 with V2.2 Main Board
MC9S12 C64 Daughter Board
Software V2.687

Megastim V2.21
