I have a polo rad in my car and the fan sensor has three terminals, i assume one is a common and the other two are different set temperatures. Can anyone confirm this and tell me what set points they are?. I want to use one for the fan and the higher temperature one for a warning light which may be the original purpose if not for a two speed fan.

have you metered it?......it may be one is a connection point for summat else and is commoned.

Can it be taken out? if so you could put it in a saucepan and raise temp and see when each terminal switches.

I'm no great expert on wiring so you should check this. The wiring diagram for my VW Jetta shows a switch with three wires as follows


Terminal 2 red/white 95 degres to fan
Terminal 1 red/black 105 degres to fan relay
Terminal 3 red live feed from fuse box

Thanks thats exactly what i needed to know. I wanted to avoid removing the switch as i was worried about damaging the rad as it appears very tight.I will use the lower temp for the fan and the high one for the temperature warning light.
The original set up must be for a two speed system and the relay switches out the resistor for maximum speed.
