Hello,

a few weeks ago , i went to UK to buy an old Discovery 2 TD5.
it's 17 years old and it has some scares...
for example :the remote control doens't unlock the car , but i was able to open the car with the keys in the driver's door.

That was fine until yesterday.
i tried to unlock the car but the key turned without unlocking.
Something is probably broken in the door.

So, i am out of the car , and i would like to get in !!

What are my options :

breaking a window ?
breaking a door ?
make a hole in the roof to insert a pin and unlock via the central locking button on the dashboard ? ( no sunroof)
any other way ??

Any advice warmly welcome

could you use the key in the passenger door? or tailgate?
ps if braking in through the tailgate/ boot (trunk for our US and other international viewers) you may be able to make a hole behind the number/ registration plate.

When we have to "break into" cars at work we lever back the top of the door and insert a fishing rod with a metal coat hanger on the end to either pull on the interior door handle or push the unlock button. With a bit of patience it's quite easy. I would not be a good car thief though!

is it possible the battery is flat (just wondering if its a security feature if the battery is disconnected the door doesn't open from the outside)

Motor factor may have a tool to unlock the car?
Or you can make one out of steel banding material...
Look for Car door Unlocking tool...
Plenty of ideas...

They seem to get stolen fairly regular so i doubt its very difficult to get in without damage.

Dont drill any holes till you've tried fishing the door handle, or thin bar down pass the window seal

You are lucky - normally the internal door locks won't lift up.

Change key fob battery and code it to the vehicle - I can't remember the procedure but it is something like you have to have driver's door open and turn ignition on and off several times.
