Megajolt v.3 Help

hi guys,

have a problem with my brothers MEGAJOLT that im desperate to get a Duratec map into.
It wont talk to my PC at all and keeps giving the message 'timeout reading cylinder count'. I have made sure that the com ports are matched on the PC and also the Megajolt software etc as i have already 'googled' possible problems. I have also bought a Trigger Wheels USB-SERIAL lead to make sure its not that either.
Im using v.4.02 software on Windows 7.

One last thing is that its working fine on the vehicle but has a Zetec map in at the min.

Any clues people as its driving me nuts?

I already have a serial laptop to try it with but im told that the Trigger Wheels USB is fine. I may give it a go if i can find a serial lead.

Thanks for the offer though and if i can ever help with anything just let me know.

Its likely that your computer is using a lot of virtual com ports
Megajolt can only use 1 to 10
Delete some com ports find a spare at 10 or less
Go to Megajolt software and select com port number same as spare

I had the same problem when I moved from a serial to serial to an usb to serial. It was one of the following, in no particular order, but I can't remember which, just remember having the issue:

-Driver for the USB cable not present or not correct
-Making sure you select the COM Port relevant to the USB port you have it plugged into (You can find this out from device Manager)

Device manager will also tell you whether the cable is being recognised by your machine, if you click on "troubleshoot".

If you've checked the COM port then likely to be the driver. I bought a cheap cable on ebay, and had to dig around and find the driver for it. There is some advice on the autosportlabs.org website, for cable identification, and driver selection.

Windows 7 for me too, but eventually got it working.

Also, just typing out load now, but is the v4 software compatible with the v3 hardware?

I had to upgrade firmware on my V3 kit to work with V3.2.1 of the MJLite Configurator, when I moved across to Windows 7. Previously I was running Windows 2000 on an old laptop.
