How far does behind the steering wheel exemption reach?

I'm aware theres a zone behind the steering wheel where the usual radius checks are exempt.

The question I have is how far does this extend? Does it stop at the vertical face of the dash?

I have a couple of tabs from the top supports of my steering column that extend vertically downards and protrude from the dash where it has curved forwards horizontally and mounts to the chassis. Im pretty sure they wouldnt pass the radius check if they werent exempt.

although it might be an exempt area, what would happen in an accident and your knee hit it?

I'd probably cry but not as much as if I fail my IVA.

But on a more serious note, it is a very good point and it's easy to forget IVA is there to protect us (and others) from ourselves!

I think the angle grinder will need to come out and a plate will need to be fabricated!
