diode type

oh clever ones, another q for you.
the cooling fan on my mobile salon turns off with the ignition, living so close to the equator it get a bit hot sometimes so i want to re-wire the fan relay so it has a permanant live,ie not ign controlled switching feed.
to me the easiest way (without chopping wires) is to bridge the 2 + terminals on the relay with a diode to stop reverse current putting the ignition on when the heat soak puts the fan on....are you with me so far ?
there are 2 basic types of diode ,zener and schottky as far as i can see, which type should i use ?.

Zener diodes are really for over voltage protection, you can buy diodes that fit in blade fuse holders. They are rated at 1 amp.

You don't need a diode.

Wire your main power feed that the relay switches to power the fan as normal, power to bat+ and other to fan to earth.

Then put a light wire to the relay coil + from the previous +, then the other side of the coil to a thermoswitch (I think Maplins do them, RS certainly do) which is on the rad or top hose/water outlet. Then thermoswitch to earth.

When the switch is hot, it will turn on and activate the coil, which in turn switches on and off the rad fan.

Been done too many times, grass track Mini's to top end racecars.

Clearer than mud!

Put ' bi-metallic thermostat ' into ebay, or RS have pages of them at different temps, about £3~£5.

Cheers,
nev.
