Engine bay electricals

Have nearly finished my locost but am now at the stage where I need to wire the engine. I have not used a loom (made my own)and have a non-electronic distributor. Question - I have an electronic ignition kit, do I still need an ignition relay? How do I wire the alternator up?
So near but yet so far!!!
