Hi everyone,

I'm building a Sylva J16 (one of Jeremy Philips last cars) which has a very narrow cockpit and a flat aluminum floor without any conveninent chassis members to bolt a seat to. Rather than fitted seats, the factory cars used to have seat cushions that sat on the floor. Has anybody had anything similar and if so, how did you stop the cushions sliding around?

I'm using Velcro strips to hold the passenger side ones in my Striker.
Haven't lost them yet

yeah double sided Velcro would be fine, I use that on my recumbent bike seat cover and it stay's on even when transporting it on the car

for the J15, Jeremy suggested bolting a piece of aluminium angle to the floor in front of each seat base to stop any risk of it sliding forward. i've probably gone a bit over the top with mine and done this plus velcro for the bases. for the backrests i glued some small alloy plates to the backrests with rivets in and bolted the seat backs to the rear panels from inside the engine bay. this also allowed me to make a wedge shaped bracket to bring the bottom of the backrest forward a couple of inches (short legs!).

I've just had a look but it seems amongst the 500+ photos of the build i took it's the one thing i didn't photograph!

I was wondering about putting a wedge behind the seat, (I'm also not very tall). I take it you didn't have any IVA troubles with it then?

I used "pronged tees" (screwfix) i think they are called a threaded insert that you hammer into the plywood and it has a thread so you then just bolt thru the ali a pain in the arse to fit but secure.
For the odd clean up etc wish i had gone for the velcro method and ali angle.
