HD type 9
furryeggs - 1/8/19 at 05:28 PM

Can anyone recommend someone to rebuild my type 9 to take 250ish bhp. Or has anyone got one for sale?

Ideally I don't want to be spending £1000 on either but If I have to then it needs to be done properly...

I can get a hd gear set for under £1000 to do it myself but I think that would be a bit tricky for me.

If it were me I'd go either BGH or SPC/Tracsport.

I went for the E8 from BGH with out the research.
Now that I have looked about a bit I would have probably gone Tracsport.

The reason, they do a stupidly long first.
The only time first is an issue is when touring in the alps and hairpins.

AdiT will be along soon saying that I don't go fast enough, but I feel that a longer first would be better.

I've only spoken to Steve on the phone once and he did talk for a long time, seemed like a nice guy.
I know Chris at BGH as hes rebuilt the box in a quaife ally case.

I'm sure there are other people out there

I thought the main case needed machining to take the bigger bearing making it hd ? So not an easy diy

Possibly the best mod to mine i ever did

I have a tran-x straight cut box in mine with a 2.29 first, so far so good.

Would recommend using a V6 Type 9 as a base, it has better 2nd 3rd and some have the heavy duty bearing already in place.
BGH modify the casing and do oil way mods so it’s more than just a gear swap.
Longer 1st gear requires a new matching gear on the layshaft.

I'm having mine rebuilt at present by first motion. the one he is rebuilding had a long first and I wouldn't want to go back to a standard first. I'm going for the semi helical but its not cheap
