Maximum age of NCB

I may be getting a company car very soon, but my kit car isn't on the road yet. If I sell my current tintop and cancel the insurance, how long have I got to complete my kit car and transfer my NCB to it? I don't really want to lose the discount, the alternative is to buy a cheap shed and run the insurance against that instead.

Can I even use tintop NCB against a kit car?

No claims bonus normally lasts for 2 years if you don't insure something within that time you could lose it.
I normally insure my motorbike every 2 years just to keep my bonus going.

Your NCB won't transfer to the Kitcar. Most Kitcar insurances don't give you any NCBs and you don't earn any either.

P00... I wondered if that was the case. Bang goes that plan then... at least I don't have an imposed time limit to finish the car though!

Anybody want to buy some NCB? Might work well with a Dutton V5...

I've been in the OP's situation (company car and a small collection of other cars, all insured on specialist policies), and I managed to arrange to keep my NCB active by negotiation with my broker.

Discuss it as a requirement (and get a record in writing) when you arrange the policy.
