Home Insurance to cover a garage full of Race Car & Tools
I have recently cancelled my home i nsurance as it would only pay out a max of £500 of Garage contents, which would barely cover the brake calipers on
my project.
Can anyone recomend a home insurance supplier that understands garage contents and that can do a deals to cover specifically what I have?
Also roughly how much should I be paying a Month for this sort of cover?

Can you not ask them to include groups or collections of items (such as tools) with a higher value? With my house insurance, I was asked to declare
anything of significant value (think it was over £1k from memory) that was kept in the house; I included any jewellary, my DVD collection (300+
movies), and included all my tools in the garage. I did pay extra for it, and they asked if certain locks were used on the garage, which they are.
The only tools not covered are those for use in association with my trade - which happens to be IT, so I'm fully covered (even though most of my
wired tools are 110V and expensive!).
Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity!

My home insurance covers tools and equipment in the garage, but they wouldn't cover car parts.
I rang round a few of the other companies and they were the same.
You're better off speaking to the likes of Adrian Flux, etc. and getting a 'build' insurance. The last one I had was only £80 a
year.

similar problem here too
I called up my home insurance when i started the build, they asked what the parts of the car would cost and also what the price of my tools was.
I reckoned tools around £2k, and my budget for the car was £10k, garage is detached and alarmed
complete no go whatsoever.
I wasnt even aware of build insurance?

Cheers guys, it was a no-go for A Flux home insurance but they have quoted me £74 'build-up insurance' to cover £9000 worth of parts in
the garage....
I'd never even heard of build-up insurance.

I used AF for two years of build insurance before SVA.
Just gave me peace of mind incase anyone broke in and I lost the lot.

I've just been on the blower to A Flux to confirm the cover and had the most rdidculous conversations of my life.
AF: We need the chassis number.
Me: it doesn't have one, I haven't built it yet.
AF: we need a chassis number to insure it.
Me: You don't get a chassis number until you've built it
AF: Well then we can't insure it until you've built it.
Me: Well how the hell can it be 'build' insurance then?
Managed to insure it in the end using the engine number and MSA Number of the roll cage. I thought they were meant to be specialist......

I have my locost race car insured along with the trailer etc with Competition Car Insurance. Very reasonable and they will tailor a policy to your
exact requirements.
