Age of car

This may sound like a daft question but do you list the year of the car by engine age, year of SVA/ IVA or from the age related plate?

none of the above

it should really be the date of first registration - that should be the same year (or just after) the SVA/IVA date

if we were talking about a tin-top it would also be the 'date of first registration' - but if you looked it up on the manufacturers records you'll find the date of manufacture is a little earlier than this and would be equivalent to the SVA/IVA date

eg. my tin-top was built on 14/12/2007, but not registered until jan 2008 (with 57 plate, sept 07 - feb 08)

I always calculate my cars age as the number of years since first registration HTH.

Im trying to insure and now I'm confused:

Date of registration on V5 Jan 2000
Reg plate XXX XXXW (W reg 1980)
AF asked if it was 1980's car?

It'll be on an "age related" plate.

Thanks all

I've no reason at all to doubt the seller (a true gent) but the guy at AF spun me out a bit questioning the car's age etc.

Time to get road legal and enjoy!

just accidentally delete the last one

If the V5c says - date of first registration is 2000 then that sounds spot on

it may also have a note that says it was made from used parts to explain the 1980 reg plate (although this note isn't always there)

just tell AF that its a kitcar with an 'age related plate' - they deal with enough kitcars so they should know what that means
