If you are found inocent, then the guilty should pay your costs.

Agreed... Its a way of appeasing the masses, by saying "Look we DO listen to you" .
yes they may listen, but they then do stuff all about it. ie it falls on deaf ears.

You should make one to test that theory saying "we the undersigned propose that everyone in the UK should give 50p to the government on June 17th 2010"

Gov response: "While we accept that many people are unhappy wit... oh wait, that sounds good!"

The mental gymnastics a landlord will employ to justify immoral actions is clinically fascinating. Just because something is legal doesn't make it moral.

It's worse than that, it's designed IMO to defuse public protest by getting everyone who cares about an issue to fill in a web site and wait 6months, by which time they've lost the will to complain loudly or have moved onto the next issue.

I do know of at least one of these petitions that did alter policy.

As for this one I think there's several ways of looking at it. Either people won't defend themselves; I doubt it if they have a good case. Or the lawyers will have to drop thier inflated prices to get the work; Who'll feel sorry for them?

All governments past and present work on the principle that if left alone it will go away or if ignored at the time it will be cheaper to implement in the future due to the fact that most people will have died thus costing them less, you have only got to look at how they have decided after some 60 odd years to recognise various war workers or even more recient the fishermen who through no fault of there own where thrown on the scrap heap with no compensation until reciently when most have died without getting one penny, i had many friends this has happened to.
Our government officials are in it for themselves only, Not for the people who put them there as its a job not a calling anymore, for the good of our people or our country.
Shame on every one of them.

Mike

It'll only be a matter of time before somebody challenges this in court.

I wouldn't be surprised if one of the motoring law firms takes on a freebie that they know they will win then sues they Govt on the basis that you shouldn't have to be left out of pocket to prove your own innocence. The phrase innocent till proven guilty springs to mind.

Remember this guys! When election time comes later this year:-

'Politicians and Nappies need to be changed often for the same reasons!'

Having made this profound statement, what do you have instead?

^^^ absolutely right

They poll different parts of the community for votes each time though....offer some sort of carrot in exchange for a vote then sell the carrot.

I signed the partition because if none of us do anything then there is no chance of anything changing

I'll start one myself huh?

"I petition the government to start giving a poo about the views of those people who voted you in"

Hang on a minute no-one voted this guy in!

Right then:
"I petition the government to f**k off and let a bunch of monkeys run this country as the effect will be the same but we get to keep our money and pay in peanuts"

I think I'll register to vote this time round
