My cousins had a 1.4 and the rear window leaked. Not other issues. Dont know if thats a common one.

my dad had one as a company car for a year. managed to get himself 9 points during that year. nippy little things, very tunable. basically mechanically the same as VW's so fairly bullet proof.

THe cars aint bad, engines chip easily, BUT the interiors of the VRS are nasty (unless you get the leather option). They all seem to be a very light grey which stains really badly, very cheap nylon type seat covers.

I've had 2, well 3 if you include the fact I sold the one I have now and bought it back 2months later...........

Lots of niggly things go wrong.

rear doors (or all 4) leak water - a day and a tube of pu sealant sorts this - had this

ARB bushes go cos the powder coat comes off the bar and they rust and wear

There's a stutter at about 1800 rpm, replacing the egr gasket for a modded one or disabling egr cures this - had this

front drag links go - updated part out now - had this

brake switches go faulty - had this

A/C temp sensors go faulty - had this

washer pipes blow off sometimes - had this

steering angle sensors go packing up the pas

alternator wiring under the gearbox breaks - then it won't charge and the pas don't work properly, just re-solder it - had this

sometimes the belts on some don't retract really well

intercooler pipes blow off - dodgy clips

the plastic shroud on the intercooler rubs the front of the fins and will wear a hole in the cooler in the end, unless you trim it back first - had this

I've had a clutch slave go - dunno if this is common though

Clutches are incredibly expensive so get one with a good one in it

Turbos blow - had this too, unless it's regularly been ragged the vnt gets well sooty and can't regulate the boost when you finally do give it some, mine snapped the shaft and spat impellor vanes up into the I/C and cut all my boost pipes to bits

Don't let it put you off though, if you read into the common faults of any car there are hundreds, there's loads more info on briskoda.net if you want it

It's great though, mines 173bhp 311lb/ft, really really pisses people off getting left in a cloud of soot by a shitty skoda spoils their day somewhat........
