Tintop engine swap. Mot

Hi
Just wondering on the emissions regs, I have a 1985 car, can't remember the exact emissions for it but basically if it runs on all 4 it passes the mot. I'm swapping the engine to a 1996 one, which would have ran a cat back in the day.
Question is should the car be tested to the newer engine standards or will I get away with the old one?
(I think I know the answer already, but if someone in the know could confirm I'd be grateful)

Chris

Just do the swap and say no more about it...

It will still be tested as a 1985 car, and 1985 emission limits.

Well that's a result, I was thinking I'd have to fork out £100 for the local "friendly" tester, but I'd rather have it legit coming back after a driving ban!
