Towing eye required?

What do people do with regards to a towing point on trackdays?

Is a roll bar adequate?
Im pretty sure Javalin require tow points.

I dont have anything on my car and have not had issues, but then again I have never ended up in the kitty litter!!

I have seen cars dragged out by roll bars or if they are deep then through a wheel and out at an angle.

I have one of these in case my car goes bang on a trackday and I need to get it onto my trailer.

Keep it in the car and it will help them dig you out. This will help spread the load and hopefully prevent them ripping off your nose cone!!

Track days ARE the best thing since sliced bread, until I get a supercharger that is!

You just need to watch if you get pulled out by the rollbar they don't roll your car over as they pull it!

They do usually want tin-tops to fit tow eyes but will be OK with towing a 7 from the roll bar. Trouble with roll bar towing is if you're in the kitty litter it can pull downward and dig in a bit.

With the screen on mine towing from the RB wasn't as easy so I made threaded top-hat bushes and welded them into the chassis front and rear. Then made 2 fittings to bolt to them with a threaded tube for a tin-top eye to screw into.

Front...

Rear...

Didn't do track days, but on my old MK Indy you could get to bits of chassis to tow it with.

Do tracks themselves not issue any kind of instructions?

e.g.

1. Must have front/rear towing eyes
2. Must have an oil catch tank...

Never tested (as i've still not finished) but i welded a couple of exhaust clamps to mine.

Figure its welded to 1.5mm steel - the steel will give before the clamps fail.

yes, a U shaped metal bar, or exhaust clamp as above, welded to lower frame under nosecone works well for me. Although lots of bits on a 7 that can be towed with, the easier you make it for them the less chance the car will be damaged when its pulled. Most people who tow you out dont give much sympathy to the car when they do it!

I've done a few trackdays with Javalin, and they always state in the briefings that towing eyes should be fitted. I've been running my Clio though, so it wasn't an issue.

I could always email them direct, just thought id see what other folks here had done.

There is certainly plenty of scope to tow from the front suspension or roll bar if needed on my MK, but adding an exhaust clamp seems an easy solution.

With any luck, i wont be needing any towing.

First trackday booked at Woodbridge.. So if i go off there i will just end up pruning the bushes!
