Zetec Turbo Potential Initial Timing Error (OMEX)

Hello,

I’ve built a 2.0l Blacktop Zetec turbo, and I’ve come across a potential problem.

I’m using an omex 600 ecu and currently only on the base map but when I check my timing with a strobe light it’s firing cylinder 1 at roughly 1000rpm 4.2 degrees before TDC. Does this sound correct, the engine seems to run hot and the exhaust manifold is piping hot after a minute of running.

It seems to run ok (ish) and AFR seems ok considering it hasn’t been mapped but it does take a bit of doing to start and bogs down when I rev it and let off the accelerator. (Not running an idle control valve)

The strobe light shows 4.2 degrees after TDC and this is pretty much the same as displayed on the omex 600 software, under ignition timing alignment is displays

Timing alignment- 1.3516
Target timing- between 2.7-4.7 as it goes up and down.


The majority of my set up is (sorry had to copy and paste the whole thing)

Focus rs supertech pistons
Eagle rods
Standard valves
Catcam valve springs and retainers.
Kentcam cams
Piper adjustable pulleys.
Ported head
Valves have been 3 angle cut.
Crank ground 0.25mm and clevite bearings. (Good oil pressure)
New oil pump.
ARP M12 head stud and nut kit.

Turbo Technics t36 turbo
An10 turbo oil return.
Crazy cage exhaust manifold
Genuine tial external wastegate
Jenvey inlet manifold & 70mm TB.
(No idle control valve used)
RC racing 750cc injectors
Fuelab fuel pressure reg.
Bosch 044 external fuel pump with swil pot. (Full an8 braided fuel lines)
Airtec 100mm intercooler
Genuine tial dump valve.
Direct port water/meth injection.
Omex 600 ECU and custom loom.

Compression tests shows results that are.

1-150psi
2-141psi
3-150psi
4-150psi


Any help appreciated.

Ok so pretty sure that mine is fireing far too late then, I'm tempted to change it to 8 and see what it's like and move up from there. Sound about right?

i would say 10 at idle is a good starting point

Managed to get a new map and no runs at 12 degrees btdc, however when the engines warmed up it goes back to 0 degrees at idle, back to 12 or above when I rev slightly, anyone know of a setting in the omex software that would cause this? My throttle % shows 0.00% when the throttle is closed but under idle tab it says, idle on throttle 1.95%, I’m going to speak to omex tomorrow but wonder if anyone here might know?
And my cams are just set at TDC right now but will be getting them setup soon.

Since you have no idle control valve then the only way the ECU can control idle speed is by changing the ignition timing. It's called "scatter spark control" in the Omex manual. If you disable this function you will have no idle control at all and it will end up either constantly stalling when cold or revving it's nutsack off when hot.
