Currently have an english axle fitted in my F27, with a panhard rod set up with rose joints etc.
I would like to tighten the rear end up a bit and fit an LSD, rear discs etc.
however, finding an LSD for this axle is quite difficult and form what i can see is expensive.
Is it feasible to pull the whole set up out and replace with something from a sierra or similar? Would would need to be modified on the chassis? Has anyone done this before?

The chassis for my F27 was an amalgamation of the old chassis design with the newer IRS design. The chassis builder (not me) did it all at the time of building. It has double wishbones, and a sierra diff (LSD on mine) and drive shafts easily fitted in.

I don't know how much the overall rear end construction differs between live and IRS frames, so not sure how difficult it would be to modify. If you need i can try and dig out the drawings that came with the car that specified the IRS geometry.

I'd imagine that swapping to IRS would cost a great deal more than putting an LSD into your existing axle, plus the set up you have with panhard rod, rose joint etc., is pretty sharp anyway.

Maybe the addition of a rear anti-roll bar?

I did a fair amount of road rallying in mk1 escorts in te seventies, and virtually all the mechanics on the car, although I was the nav, and the only added extra we put in above what you have was rear turrets/ long shock/spring set up. I'd imagine the shocks/springs you have now would be similar. We won quite a lot of events in that car in our class, and the driver was a real fanatic for handling.

Have a look under the back of Japanese 4x4... If I remember rightly one of the little (rav maybe) Toyotas had an LSD as standard...

Or a Volvo one...
