stuck distance oiece on crankshaft

In stripping down my Jaguar XK engine, the stripdown has been stopped by the distance spacer located behind the ctankshaft damper cone, being stuck solid on the crankshft has anyone got experience of freeing this part. The Crankshaft is still in the engine and the timing chains are still in place. Itg has been mentioned that the distance piece can be carefully tapped off using a brass wedge, has anyone got experience of doing this or knows where brass wedges can be purchased.

Thanks
Howard
