Take the rear quarter out and leave it out?

Hi Gav
is there nobody locally that does glass etching ? would look more permanent than a sticker .!!
just need to find what you have to mark on the glass.

nemesis v12 - 27/7/10 at 08:35 PM

just looking through ebay may be able to buy ohp acetate and print on that then stick it in the window but dont think IVA maa will be happy

and taking windows out isnt really an option but thanks for the thought

Try auto glass i work for a bus company and they use to etch windows for us

blakep82 - 27/7/10 at 09:01 PM

thought only the windscreen had to be marked?!
or is it that only the windcreen has to be made of glass?
could you make up some lexan windows for the test? (check IVA manual again, i think it might have changed since i last looked at windows

scudderfish - 27/7/10 at 09:03 PM

Can you not just take the windows out?

nemesis v12 - 27/7/10 at 09:04 PM

all glass needs to be e marked as of not long ago ;-(

windscreen
side windows
back windows
everyything
POOOOOOOOHHHHHH

t.j. - 27/7/10 at 09:08 PM

Is it allowed to replace it with plastic?

I personal would not like to have real glass behind my back unless it is safety glass.

blakep82 - 27/7/10 at 09:39 PM

always read the manual

3.
Windscreens must be “Safety Glazing” made from glass and display the relevant markings. (see note 2 and table 1)
4.
All other windows (including sunroofs and removable glass panels) and side-screens must be “Safety Glazing” (which may be made from glass, or from plastic)

I'm sure, if you can show documentation showing that the windows are laminated that counts as well!

eg. a reciept from the kit company.

Could be worth a phone call

I think you are going to have a draughty car unitl after IVA.
I think the IVA guy will see through your cunning plan (no pun intended.....)

nemesis v12 - 28/7/10 at 01:29 PM

surly we cant present a car for IVA with 3 windows missing??? if it was a 7 or cobra type it wouldnt be a problem but this must be against the rules as its a fuly enlcolsed cock pit ie with a roof.

interestedparty - 28/7/10 at 02:40 PM

If its not fitted they cant test it, nothing in the manual about cars having to have windows

I would whip out the windows and fit some edge trim round the openings.

However I have read, on other forums, that the IVA inspector may class a closed vehicle with window apertures as "an incomplete vehicle" (if no glazing was fitted) and therefore will not test the car.

I hear that the exemption to use kite marked BS glass has been extended to April 2011.....

Further reading indicates that not fitting side and rear glass may be acceptable so long as the glass was not designed to be bonded in and be a structural part of the shell.
So traditional rubber seal mounted glass may be OK to leave off.....

Talk to your VOSA man and ask what they will and will not accept. Also read the IVA manual.

Blake is right, you will have to have the glazing marked It may be worth checking on http://www.gt40s.com/forum/ to see what they do.
