Modifying a power steering rack ?
Reading the Midlana book and Kurt has de powered the power steering rack by removing the seals and extended the arms by chopping them in half and
welding in 150mm.
I am sure I remember neither of these being acceptable in the uk. Not roadworthy ie would fail Mot / Iva am I right or am I remembering wrongly ? more
interested in the depowering as the arms could be extended as per any other uk kit.

MOT's.......

Don't believe you are allowed to weld steering arms in the UK.
You can use extensions which screw onto the existing threads though.

Depowering is very common in the MX5 world, a lot of drivers feel power steering doesn't suit the light car. It also helps that the power
steering rack is quicker than the equivalent manual rack.
As mentioned, screw in extenders are also fine.
