Speedo needle going a bit crazy
evo.rocks - 29/3/10 at 10:25 AM

I was out yesterday and when i accelerate (pedal to the metal) the speedo goes mad and the needle starts to rock back and to.

When i accelerate at a normal pace, the needle reads fine up until about 40mph.

Why is it doing this?!?!?

it it cable driven or electronic?

think the cable one on my old mini used to do that a bit (might have been the rev counter actually...)

what kind of sender have you got and how is it mounted ?

The square drive may be rounding off.

Try a new cable.

if its electrical, mine went nuts just before the battery collapsed.

its electrical. I have the smithes telemetrix speedo so it picks up the signal from magnets on the prop shaft through the sender.

I just dont understand why its doing it all of a sudden

how solid is your sender mounting ? (could it have worked itself loose ?)

I think the magnets on the prop can be a real PITA to get right

thats what i had, i lost a magnet once, i also had an issue with the mounting bracket vibrating so it kept losing the pulse, then when the battery was about to die it went crazy

My speedo and revcounter went nuts once when the earth connection to the chassis came loose.

I would check all your earths first.

pah - just stick to 40mph, you'll be fine
