Linux audio stream help, any Guru's
AdrianH - 18/9/13 at 08:50 PM

Now I am not after streaming music or video stuff here, but basic speech audio from one machine to another.

One I would like to test out is using two computers as simple audio mux'es?

Each PC has a sound card with stereo input and stereo outputs and would like to get PC 1 mic left to PC2 computers speaker left, Mic right to the other speaker right and the other way also from PC2 to PC2, basically having two full duplex audio streams.

Not looking to multicast although that may be a thought in the future to have a 3rd PC record all separate streams. Low latency and audio bandwidths would be low such as around 8Khz only.

Have been looking at FFmpeg, ffserver, icecast but all seem to serve as mp3 streams OGG vorbis etc and really do not believe all that is required.

So if a Linux Guru, where would you start and what packages would you look at if any, outside the standard installation stuff?

I have been struggling with this for a while, between Rasp-Pi and home PC never got the thing to work, possibly due to the raspberry pi, so after a while off the thing decided to try again, but this time with help.

Cheers

Adrian

If you can find the right binaries, I'm betting it's just a matter of setting up the right pipes across the network...

Looks like Pulse Audio might answer your needs...
