Saw a right hand drive BMW with a reg plate "23696969 or 20696969" on the M25 the other day, black plate with white letters! Thought it might be foreign at first but the rhd threw me on that one.....is it some kind of trade plate? I thought all reg plates had a mix of numbers and letters?

I'm sure someone here will cure my sleepless nights over this lol

Black plate with white letters is Gurnsey registered - only Numbers though, no letters.

Could be French and RHD.

Ah that explains it,I saw a BMW coupe yesterday with 318 as the reg, white on black plates.

Pretty sure channel island plates aren't that long....

Thats a good point, I've never seen one longer than 5 or 6 characters.

I once had to go to the Chinese embassy in Edinburgh for a visa and saw a couple of black BMW's with similar plates. Cant remember the exact format. I wonder if it was a diplomatic vehicle.

Numberplates over the world

Quite often see these in oxford white on black with about 5 numbers.

Someone told me they are diplomatic plates, another told me they were from the channel islands.

Channel islands plates are:

Jxxxxxx for Jersey
AYxxxxx for Alderney
xxxxxx for Guernsey

None have more than 6 digits - they're only small islands! Guernsey are allowed black/silver plates although most cars use normal yellow/white/black ones.

Diplomtic car sounds likely.
