LANDROVER INFO NEEDED
Question for all those landy boys mad4x4 ect
Its a 1963 landy 2.25 petrol 83000 miles original unmolested condition long wheelbase. five door
Q1 How much do you think its worth from a dealer.
Q2 How much for delivery 400 miles door to door.

Stuff to check
Mango,
Is it a 3 door, 5 door, SW, Pick up?
check the following:
Chassis:
rear crossmember, front frame horns, rear shock mounts, all prone to rust by just sitting there.
Bulkhead:
Footwell rust, door pillar rust rust around the vents.
If it is a good unmolested rover then I would expect 750-1000 pounds(no rust, drive away easy MOT condition) 250 if showing rust in the footwell and
chassis, deliver of 400 miles would be (in my limited experience of having a LWB trailered from Dundee to Chesterfield) 250-300 (figure 85p/mile)
Please bare in mind this info comes from the sunny state of Tennessee......

Have to agree with David on his points.
In addition, door tops tend to rust where they join the door bottom. On my Series 3, 1976, front wheel bearings, propshaft UJs, track rod ends, and
shock absorber bushes also needed attention. Adding to the list of chassis rust spots, under the front spring hangers is also common.
Another thing to be aware of (from memory) the speedos only have 5 digits! It may be displaying 83000 miles, but it may have gone round a time or
two.
Don't let this lot put you off though, as they are pretty easy to work on as vehicles go and parts are relatively cheap and widely available.

Its the boss thats buying it and hes not too practical with the spanners. Ive so far only sucummed to the quad for mud plugging and thats going to
upgrade to a high power off road buggy with long travel suspention.
The advice is welcome is as all ways welcome.

If I had a pound...
for all the old Landies I'd welded I'd be two pounds richer now.  . The chassis parts are dirt cheap and easy to fit so as they say,
don't be put off. They do tend to drink petrol but the free road tax will offset that. Weber conversion made them a bit easier on the pocket but
that was expensive initially.

Landies !
Agree with all points mentioned. Can be a very practical every day vehical if you don't mind 18-20 mpg. Mine does 20 mpg on a decent run. In
winter, in cold weather it bottoms out at 12mpg.
Apart from chassis rot, you can run them for ever !

Ive got a very good mate who specialises in chassis replacements for landies. Full package includes galvanised chassis, new brakes, shocker, springs
etc. Apparently the cheapest in the country. Hes restored several old ones to their former glory. Hes got a one owner 75K mile 22 year old one in at
the moment. The guy should expect another 25 years out of it when completed.
Hes had them come over from Europe for work. Regularly they are picked up from down south.
Specialist 4X4 based in Bishop Auckland, Co. Durham. Adverts are in Land Rover mags. Highly recommended even though im a tad biassed!
(by the way - i dont work there and am not on commission).
