Fooling an ATX PC PSU

Hi guys,

I now have an ATX PC power supply spare for my electrolysis de-rusting, how do I fool it into thinking its got a motherboard connected?

Cheers

Put it back in the case with a motherboard and all that. Then remove it really carefully with a blindfold round it. Then plug the big plug into a blob of plasticine or something so it thinks it's still plugged in. If you put a box over it you could probably then remove the blindfold.

Hope that helps,

Liam

Easy!

Get a piece of wire (paper clip, bit of solder, anything really)

Connect the Green wire to earth (any black wire)

That’s it the fans should come on and it is powered up.

Yellow - 12v
Red - 5v
Orange - 3.3v

i found a few of the old AT ones in a skip outside my mouse. They just deliver without mods. Really good to know about modding the new ones though as the old ones will die out soon

that mod works - have found a FEW psu that just want a pulse at that pin to start / stop. if it doesnt spring to life, try making the connection, then removing it.
