R1 5VY - Engine breathing

I was speaking with Andy Bates of AB performance this weekend and he mentioned that the 5VY R1 engine has needs to breath freely and he recomended fitting a breather from cam cover to a catch tank in addition to the standard crank breather.

He also mentioned that the because of the above the oil level should not be over filled.....

I was wondering how other BEC users of the R1 5VY were coping with this, any additional info and comments welcome ?

Cheers,
Kosmo

For normal road use I don't think it is necessary. I have left the standard AIS system in place and just have a filter on the crankcase breather. No oil has escaped.
If you are going to race it or do lots of track days then it would be worth doing.

IMHO of course

first i blokd off the small pipes that go to the exhaust.

than i drill 4 big hol,s and 4 small one,s

I spoke to Chris from Cranbrook kit cars at the peterborough show, he recommended an extra breather going into a catch tank which then drains directly back into the sump, as apparently the 5YV does like to chuck it out, and also an accusump for extra peace of mind

Thanks for all the info... looks like I need a catch tank and a few mods.

Any more info on this yet?

Krypto is yours up and running? do the mods work?

Kosmo, have you made any progress?

Anyone got any pictures of catchtank installs?

Re oily85's comment Where would you feed it back into the sump?
Is this a good thing? Surely the oil going back in will have mixed with condensation etc from the catch tank?
