On BBC website at the moment - here...Serious credit to the pilot, managed to crash land it, with everyone on board safe - methinks a serious payrise coming his way.

Holy cow that is something else! I'm a commercial pilot and have always said that a plane would never be able to crash land on water and stay upright. Shows what I know??? Always worth doing a youtube search for the Etheopian 767 that crash landed in the sea of the comores coast line.

sounds silly, but I alway's check the lifejacket really is there.... and make sure I know exactly where the nearest door is!!

He won't get any pay increases, just some more time off. Good job in a scary moment though.

Those US immigration and customs people have to do a better job obviously. Those birds just flew right past them...

what an amazing escape for all those people, top job done by the crew of the aircraft.

Hats off to the pilots and crew!! Top Job in an extremely serious situation. On the other hand I am relieved to learn that the bloody Playstation floats!! Coz I fly one of those to earn a living!

Noticed on BBC that when interviewing the Yanks '9-11' had to come into the discussion - terrorist seagulls maybe?

Also described as an 'airstrike' as opposed to a 'birdstrike'.....

Wingtanks must have been light to stay afloat that long....?

Just incredible. This is the first and only time that a modern jet airliner has successfully landed on water.

I've always been a bit cynical about the life jackets, but it appears they could be of use after all!

The conditions definately helped them (inland, daylight etc) but an outstanding piece of flying!!.

This is the link to the 767 one I mentioned. They almost got away with it (not withstanding the fact the capt was being hit over the head by a hijacker at the time!!)

Watching the plane crash series on NatGeo there was one program where a plane crashed - flight 401 and Boeing or whoever the manufacturer was, re-used the components in the other planes -

Once the air crews got shot of this, a large number reported seeing ghosts of the dead crew - the practise soon stopped because of that.

You will notice that a lot of the passengers dont have life jackets on.....how ever they did manage to get the duty free off with them.

no wonder that plane couldn't fly, not with those big floppy ears!

I read on another forum thatone of the news reports had him down as an ex fighter pilot!!

Maybe taught how to land in water incase he missed the ship.

Don't know what any of the Airbus drivers think but doesn't the computer in the A320 prevent you stalling, therefore "simplifying" a ditching (just keep the sidestick full back!)? I say that, but still one hell of an effort by BOTH pilots and the rear crew!
