Flywheel Markings & Clutch Advise please
DrEagle - 21/12/03 at 05:34 PM

I have spent months chasing down a flywheel for my 1985 Ford V6 Cologne Engine.

I have managed to get acquire an earlier engine from a Mk2 Granada. I don’t want to use the engine but it came with a flywheel, bell housing and 4 speed box.

My first question is:
There are two clutches available for that engine, which clutch do I need? From what I have read the only difference is the earlier one is 1mm smaller in diameter than the later. I ordered the older one to match the flywheel (taken from the older engine). What do think think?

Chaps, can you take a look at this photo of my flywheel.
If you can make it out from the picture, it is covered in a sort of craze like you see on an antique plate or vase.

Do you think it is ok? (I don’t intend to race it) Rescued attachment flywheel.jpg

Hi,Doc;
Judging by the image you posted,I would say that the fractures you observed are the result of wee poor casting.Some of the cracks appear to have slightly rounded sides,is this the case?(its a bit hard to tell from the image).
If this is so then it may have been the result of the casting cooling unevenly.
If you have access to a machine shop,it may be worth them taking a light skim over the affected area to see how deep they are (they do look pretty bad).
If in doubt,change it out!
Burton Power may be able to supply you with an exchange item.
Good luck.
