Pinto engine number

Hello,

i need to find the engine number of the car i recently purchased.

it's a 2.0 SOHC Pinto, 205 casing.
I thought it would be stamped on the flat on exhaust side, but there is nothing.

Where could it be ?

(i tried to post a picture, but no way ??)

Gerardo

it used to be that when ford supplied 'replacement'; engines, they had no engine no. the engineers fitting it were supposed to stamp the no. of the one taken out on the new block.

Bottom of the block near the alternator mount.

I too had a genuine Ford rebuilt pinto which had a blank space where the number was meant to be, I stamped my own number from a picture I found on the web... never cause any issues

The possibility of the DVLA having accurate records of all engine numbers for all cars dating back to the 1970's is absolutely zero, its a bit of a farce tbh, they can't even spell the name of the cars right...

I don't know the address, but wrote to Ford before with the engine number of the Pinto I used in my MK Indy. They wrote back quickly and free stating the age of the engine. The letter satisfied the SVA tester in Southampton.

thats the casting number, not an engine no.
typically ford use the last 5 digits (or so) of the engine no and vin to be the same.

that along with the 2 letter date prefix - eg. "JB00000" would be engine in Jan 1988

Gerardo, are you still running the old Ford EFI on yours ?

Hello,

the engine is a pinto with 205 casing.
It has been modified by previous owner with 2 double weber, electronic ignition etc..

I know where the number should be located ( as in the picture with th red block), but there is nothing.
So i thought that may be it could be somewhere else

My V5 has an engine number : KJ19932.
May be i will stamped this number on the bloc.

Can you help me and tell what Ford engine is behind this number ?

all that number tells you is its a ford engine made in Jan 1989

as for the spec of the engine only the engine code on the original VIN plate would give you a clue (code like NRB, NR2, N4A, N4I, NRA, NRC, NRI)
but if its been modified at all then its original spec will be mostly irrelevant.

or made may '70.

it seems its a 'factory' replacement engine, so engine could be anything.
edit:
specifically, the original vin plate will give details of the original engine, not what it has now.
