I'm new!!! Engine/Transmission advice needed
Hi,
I am just about to start building a Locost, I want to use a 2.0l Vauxhall 16v engine from an Astra GTE and a Siera diff. drive shafts etc, but what
box should I use?

howdydiddly.....most would say type 9 from seirra as they have seperate bell housing,,,hence adaptor plate/parts could be used..... gearboxx from rwd
carlton would probably fit aswell then get v/hall/ford prop done....good luck to yer

yes well done ....now lets go down scrappy or look in loot for one .....EE ERRG. oh no looks like sierra type 9 they are good boxes though

1.8[1] Manta Getrag 'box or a 1.8 Carlton 'box, the Manta box is stronger with better ratios.
[1] 2.0 Manta 'box has the starter on the wrong side.

Cheers for the response guys. I take it a 1.8 Carlton box would go straight on? How would I go about mateing the Seira box to the Vauxhal lump.

The Carlton gearbox is supposed to bolt straight up to the VX engine. I've no first hand experience, but I've no reason to doubt it
To mate the VX engine to a type9 you'd need at least an adaptor plate, I'm sure there'll be a company out there that makes 'em. They're usually
between 200 and 300 quid.
