Any advice on radiators

I aim to get a radiator in the next few days. What donors have people used?

(this will be to cool a 1300 x-flow)

John, check the regs as they are fairly strict on rads as well, max of three cores i think and not all alluminium either. It also depends on your timing as quite a few of the racers last year were using std escort rads as they weren't running very hot. Have you tried the racers web ring ?

I know of the Yahoo race forum, but I have never been able to get Yahoo to post properly.
Do you know of another?

No sorry, only that one. Have you joined properly, as I've not had a problem posting ?
And the roll loop has now gone, with the steel scuttle !

It may be worth checking previous posts (search on radiators), but I asked this question and a majority came back with Nissan Micra, as it is small, efficient and has its own fan.

This is what I'm gonna use to cool a 1700 XFlow.

Hope this helps,

Mark

Regarding Nissan Micras, which model do people get them from? Is it from the round one thats just been replaced a month or so back or is it from the really old one from the D, E and F reg and thereabouts era.

New shape Micra rad

Still going on about the micra rad I'm afraid!

Today i saw a new (round) shape Micra at the local scrappies. £15 for the rad.

It looks like its ally, and it's very cute and compact. The only real issue is it man enough to cool an extra 700cc?

Whats the final words on the matter?

bsilly - why did you suggest the earlier model?

Thanks as always,

Mark

Hi
I've got a 1700 x-flow in my 7 and an early Micra rad and the fan hardly ever cuts in even in the middle of summer! Go for it!

The capacity of an engine isn't the factor when considering cooling capacity. Its BHP.

At least, thats what I've read in the past.

Find out the power rating for the Micra, theres probably less of a difference compared to the X-flow than comparing capacity.

I had the local Motor Factors guy printing stock lists, then going through every book to get dimensions. What a bloke!

anyway, we have gone for a Maestro as it's one of the cheapest and has rear facing connectors.

Will let you all know how it goes.

£40 - Ok dearer than Jon's £10 scrappie job, but time for build is short and I can't take a day out going round scrappies (especially in this weather).
Does of course mean I need to get fan / cap and switch . . .

The Granada one would have fitted but it was more than double the price.
