another engine idea

Found a guy selling a mk5 Escort RS2000 engine. Apparently a 16v (non turbo) but not a Zetec, 150bhp as standard.

Anyone got any info? Would be nice in my Locost!

that will be the car for which they did the tv advert which was a take-off of the Rocky films. Good advert, I've heard the engines are good too.

Hi
This engine is basically a sierra/granada dohc engine (i4) but with a 16 valve head on it, plus one or two mods. The same engine was used in Scorpios and also made bigger to 2.3 litres with a balancer shaft. Many think the 2.3 is the best 4 cyl engine Ford ever made (even nicer than the Zetec!). Just change the cam chain, yes chain and tensioner every 50,000miles and it should stay sweet.

You reckon it's suitable for powering a Locost then?

Hi Chris
Bit tall and heavy but get your tape measure out and have a look! Only problems will be sump and plenum chamber.

Is that the same engine as the 2.0 Dohc 8v from a sierra? I've got one of them and they're quite expensive for parts, and that's with my discount.

Hi

Yes this engine is the same as the 8valve variant found in the 2000e sierra and granada's, even the pistons in these 8 valver's have cutouts for the missing valve's too!

Expensive for parts? yep, how about £104 for just 1 piston, if ya can find one that is!!

But the 2.3 version that is fitted to the Galaxy, is considered to be a very good engine, and in both capacities is strong and reliable.

I have covered over 30k in my MK5 RS2000 with no probs

The engines can be picked up fairly cheaply as they are not very well heard of, everyone wants a Zetec!!

Everything said so far is generally true but not strictly true. I only say this as we wouldn't want anyone to buy an old DOHC lump and try and stick the 16v head onto it.

They are basically the same engine but few things are interchangeable. The pistons, for example are NOT the same.
