Smarten up Zetec Cam Cover
I am just finishing off my Pinto to Zetec conversion (on a tight budget)
Has anyone got any tried and tested solutions to really smarten up a zetec cam cover which is showing its age.
whats the best way to clean it, what is the best paint for it, does it need a etch primer etc....
The big requirement is it needs to be really cheap, but effective....

Light blasting with soda, etch prime and paint or powder coat again I would have it lightly blased. i have seen 2 silvertops powdercoated both lookes

diswasher to clean it, etch primer + can of top coat, pick out the 'zetec' in silver to finish, other options polish it or crinkle paint

That is by far the best 'locost' way to smarten it up. I tried doing it with mine but gave up after 20mins and painted it with alloy wheel
paint i had in the garage instead

If it's a silvertop solvol autosol a toothbrush and a few hours.

Dont get it grit/bead blasted. You'll more than likely end up with grit in your engine.
Soda blast it at home and then get it powdercoated.
If you cant be bothered to blast it, just rub it over with 200 grit paper and then get it powder coated.

Here's my effort, same as method as Will121 said. I used etch primer then plastikote metallic blue from Halfuds. After taking off the paint on
the raised logos with a bit of wet and dry I went over with clear lacquer. Quite pleased with the result

Probably not locost and it wouldnt have to be Lotus but i thought this looked nice.

I went for a degrease and spray option, i used sperex enamel spray from the can and it seems to have lasted ok.
