X-flow positioning

To get my crossflow to sit 1 inch below the bottom of the chassis I have to set it at an angle (front higher). If I sit it level the sump/bell sits 2 inches below the bottom of the chassis. Is 2 inches OK and does the engine need to be sat exactly level ?

Cheers all

I would guess (and it is a guess), that when the car is on level ground, the back can go up and down relative to the front (ie going over bumps, decellerating etc.) because the UJ on the prop "bends".

Now, if the engine/g'box were mounted at such an angle the UJ had no more "bend", you would have a problem. (Imagine an engine raised to 45 degrees)

So, my guess would be that as long as the rear axle movement relative to the engine/g'box is not limited by the UJ then you are ok.

I would also presume that fuel, oil, water and stuff would be ok as cars do go up and down hills.

Do I sound like I am from the planet bo-lok, where they speak bo-loks?

Uncle F
The front of a crossflow should be higher than the back.
1. To prevent the cylinder head from air locking.
2. To get the carbs levellish. (look at your inlet manifold, if the engine was level the carb would point towards the ground). Look at a x-flow in an Escort and you'll see what I mean.
