Header Tank Mounting

Hi All,
What is the LCB opinion on this?

Is it too close? If so any ideas to protection, as it is really the only place for the header tank.

Too Close?

a bit too close i'd say... if you can't munt it anywhere else, how about getting a custom one made? would be smaller, easier to position elsewhere, and be aluminium instead of plastic, so it won't melt as easily

have a look on http://www.alloyracingfabrications.com/header-tanks/universal-1.html

i got the budget one, he is happy to make changes to dimentions, and the size and number of inlets and outlets too.
I got one with bigger outlet, and 2 bigger inlets than standard, no change to price. great guy to deal with too

can't really see what space you have from the photo, but you could make it very slim, and a bit deeper surely

Doesnt it need to be highest point on the collant system, I doubt its high enough being down below the top of the manifold.

Unfortunately that's the highest point possible, any higher and it will need a hole in the bonnet.

I am of the opinion also it's too close, but was hopings somone here would go "ahh no thats fine mine is like that"...

Looks like im going to need a bespoke one made... more £££...

i reckon you could make some sort of bracket to hold a tank above and behind the radiator?

theres a picture in her of how i did mine. its not really clear, but i made use of the lower wishbone bracket bolt, and an unused remote oil filter bracket to hold a folded aluminium bracket up.

you seem to have an engine stabiliser bar on the top of the chassis, perhaps you could make some use of that?

Re-visiting this issue today... the header tank location need to stay where it is due to engine positioning etc and I dont really want to pay the cost of a bespoke Alloy item.

Can anyone recommend a production car header tank that might fit? Possibly from a bike or small hatchback?

ebay is turning up a few contenders but before bidding i thought it best to ask the power of LCB...

Rover 25/45/200/400 is easy to mount and looks smaller than the one in the first photo. I can measure mine up if you need to know accurately.

I have a Corsa one in mine, mounted at the front just under the nose, its small enough has a pressure cap, two bleed inlets and the scrap yards are full of them. Got mine of a car with 3,500 miles on it smashed to bits
