Engine Swap CVH to Zetec

Sorry for posting another question, but don't want to waste money buying parts I might not need lol.

Going to be swapping from a 1.6 CVH to a 2.0 Blacktop Zetec.

The CVH was originally from a 1991 injection Sierra so has a flywheel with drillings for the crankshaft sensor in the rear of it. The CPS sensor itself is basically in the same place as on the Zetec.

So my question is should I open out the holes to fit the CVH flywheel to the Zetec. Then use a new clutch of the existing type, which appears to be 215mm diameter to mate the engine to the type 9 gearbox. Or am I better buying a new flywheel and 2.0 pinto clutch?

Depends.

I went from a 1.8 CVH to a Blacktop Zetec and retained the CVH flywheel because it was miles lighter then any stock Zetec one. Probably worth finding out the relative weights of each before deciding, unless you are planning to buy an aftermarket lightened Zetec fly.

BTW those Sierra 1.6 cvh flywheels with trigger castings are as rare as hens teeth. Not sure if they are a slight as the 1.8 CVH ones though.

Is it really a 1.6? thought sierras were the 1.8cvh.
If so lots of bits will fit, even the exhaust manifold (with an adaptor plate), probably engine mounts, alternator mount and so on and yes,the flywheel. It is lighter too IIRC.

Memory is hazy, so hopefully the above will be confirmed by others.

1.6 CVH engines were definitely fitted to late Sierras.

I can confirm that 1.6/1.8CVH and Zetec exhaust port spacing are the same. However the stud holes are different so a bit of adaptation is needed to make them fit.

Hi Stu,

What clutch did you end up using with your flywheel?

I'd bought a new 1.8CVH clutch that had only done a couple of thousand miles so I just re-used that.
