Zetec in MK (Oil filter and alternator)

I have just situated my engine in a rough position that it will take once fully installed.

The oil filter is rubbing against the steering column. What has everyone else with zetecs installed done/ been using? Its a Silver top.

Also i've seen different ideas of where to mount an alternator, which side, inlet or exhaust is best? Or is it personal preference?

Thanks.

filter issue - shorter filters are available. Can't remember what off, though

alternator - personal choice (i.e. where will it fit best?)

Oil filters are off a renault 5 IIRC. Nice short stubby ones.

The alt is up to you. where ever it will fit with space. The brackets are available from places.

our engine is as far back as it will go so the oil filter just misses the steering. The alternator is of a suzuki vitari i think. Rescued attachment P1010045.JPG

Inlet side is best for the alternator, few ready made kits out there for around £80, forget the Tiger one as it is a bit cheap and none too cheerful. If you are doing your own mounts you maybe able to tilt the engine in up/down direction or from side to side to allow more room for a filter. Also make sure the carbs or injection sustem will not hit the top chassis tube once in place with the filter fitted.

I used a Daihatsu Charade 1.3 alternator and Tiger bracket (make your own because it's rubbish!).

Crossland 659 / Coopers 107X / FRAM PH2874 (really short one)
Crossland 573 (slightly longer one)
coopers Z25 (longer)
Halfords 221/Champion C115 (same as above?)
Halfords 265/Champion C148 (very long - recommended part)

I use the shortest one - Crossland 659
