toyota 4-AGZE head scratcher!

Hi guys,

Has anybody fitted this Supercharged 16v into a locost?

I was recently roaming around a japanese import place in South Africa yesterday, and came across these beautiful specimens. They are easy to obtain ( R3900 ) and they reckon they will give me a 3 month guarantee and that they could get me parts if required no problem(except the standard EFI).

Now my main concern would be the EFI for this engine.

I was just doing some research and read that the supercharger has a clutch that dis-ingages when not needed, which is controlled by the standard EFI.Would this be a problem, or is it no problem to bypass this clutch and run the charger full time? These engines come straight out of a MR2.

thanks
darren

well i would say....... get it. many have fitted the normal 4age to their locosts especially on the locost_oz group on yahoo. i myself am using a 4age in my car, not the GZE just the GE. Best places to go are:
www.billzilla.org(he races them)
www.club4ag.com(they all race them, theres a technical forum where you can get help)
phil bradshores(i think) site.... theres a link to it on the billzilla site

are you saying that the engine at the scrap yard has no ECU?? otherwise i dont see any problem with the efi.

i wish i still lived over that side of the world........... hmmmmm no rust. and none of this "oh dear its a bit nippy to go out to the garage to do a bit of work.

cheers
fin

I've just been chatting to someone on another forum in South Africa, he says he has fitted one of these engines to his 1990 rsi(4age) without changing the EFI, all he had to do was use his old 4AGE distributor hope its that easy!

Instead of the standard EFI, I'll get a nice fully programmable aftermarket system

I take it I'll proberly have to use the standard ECU then?

the engines are cut out of vehicles in Jap and imported here,so there is not much that comes with it all supposedly have less than 30000miles on them!

only problem is its the opposite at the moment, now its "Its too damn HOT to do anything!"

ggg

birkin fit most of the 4A series into there cars from factory.
the exception being the 4ac cuz it sux donkeys balls.

keep the supercharger on it...
it must have an ECU somewhere other wize it has been taken.

the first step to going faster is to put a smaller pully on the supercharger. I think it won't be hard to find and aftermarket one some where

frankly there is no need to have a disengaging clutch for the charger. most supercharged cars go without.

Hi, looking at the photo the supercharged engine should fit easy.
You will probably have to put an extra joint into the steering to get around the supercharger, presuming it will be RHD.

I think that sounds like a plan! seems like it should fit with not too many hassles then

The T50 fits easily into a locost chassis see Rob Lanes site!
I've fitted this box into my Indy chassis as well, lovely fit! No mods needed.
