1 More Xflow prob!

Hi All Xflow users,

The fuel pump on my 1600 Xflow is uncomfortably close to that engine bay brace member, 'R'. It's the diagonal tube, between the front-most (wide) crossmember and the top-tube 'J1'.

Is there an alternative fuel pump available to avoid the potential foul, between present pump & member 'R'?
Any suggestions or other solutions?

TIA
Dick

I know exactly what you mean, if you look at my website, you will see that I lowered the engine into my newly powder coated chassis with the petrol pump on and scratched it

The pump was about 2mm away from tube R when the engine was finally in and there wasn't enough room to put the petrol pipe on. I ended up buying a Facet solid state pump and blanking the hole with some 3mm plate, don't forget to use the plastic spacer with the rubber seals.

Just after posting this I notice that my avatar shows my engine with the mechanical pump on.

What plastic spacer? Rubber seals? Where? Please elucidate.

Dick,

The fuel pump uses a plastic sandwich plate to the block.
It has a gasket on either side.

I used a hand cut ali plate about 6mm thick to blank it off, with a single gasket.

I take it then, that to use a x/flow in a locost you have to ditch the fuel pump and buy an after market one ie facet or something ?

Sorry for the late reply, been busy with my own engine probs. Anyhoo, as Rob says there's a plastic spacer between the pump and the engine, also as Rob says just make yourself a blanking plate (mine is made of 3mm Steel).

Just plumbed in the fuel pump today and everything is ticketyboo.

If by any chance you don't have the plastic spacer, I MAY have one.

Deckman001, I'm sure if you move the engine over a few more mm's then you should be able to fit the original mechanical pump. The only reason mine didn't fit is because I never had the thing on when I trial fitted my engine.

Fuel Pump!

Rob, Roadkill -

Thanks for the feedback. I'll have to excavate the greasey c**p in the existing fuel pump area. Hopefully, the plastic spacer can be uncovered!!

OK - now to the leccy type pump. "Pusher" type, or "puller" type? Or is only the former available?
(Puller type pumps were fitted to Morry Minors).

Cheers.

The trouble comes from building the chassis with the R bracing in its book position, with above a 1300cc engine.
The 1600's are 25-30mm taller in the block which moves the pump up.

There's no need to install a full length R and in fact it can be installed slightly shorter and further back on top rail,
this allows a mechanical fuel pump.

Otherwise if you have problems it's an electric pump as solution.

How do you work that out Rob? Not the height difference in blocks but that it moves the pump up?
