Car engine to Bike Engine Conversion - Parts List and FAQ's ( CEC to BEC Conversion )

Car engine to Bike Engine Conversion - Parts List and FAQ's ( CEC to BEC Conversion )

Following on from a recent post where a few people added their input, I have gathered the info together so it's all in one place and people can be directed to this post for some quick answers.

Please feel free to add your own input, but please keep it applicable to a BEC Conversion (Bike Engine Car), and I will then add it to the list at the top!

With Regard to FAQ's - Please ask away with "FAQ" in your title, that way other people can look through and see your FAQ answered (hopefully!)

Another thing to consider, please have your location in your Details, because if someone is close to you then they would probably be more than happy to take you out and show you what a BEC is capable of! And help out with advice and photos in your conversion!

What you will need:

1. Bike Engine (usual suspects include; FireBlade, R1, ZX10R, ZX12R and Hayabusa)
2. Bike wiring Loom
3. Bike Fuel Pump
4. Engine Cradle to suit
5. New Exhaust Manifold (Maybe new exhaust system)
6. Propshaft
7. Prop Adaptor
8. Complete Gearchange setup (lever or paddle change. Rods or cables)
9. Different ratio Diff. (Potentially)
10. Different Fuel Lines (Potentially)
11. Dash Clocks to suit Bike (And wiring to suit)
12. Dash Switches (Potentially - and wiring to suit)
13. New Springs (To suit new weight of car)
14. New Coolant Hoses (Potentially - Maybe some hose adaptors and a Header tank)
15. New Radiator (Probably NOT necessary)
16. Change in Fuel Tank (Potentially - to maybe suit an "In-Tank" pump for injected engines)
17. Power Commander (For Injected engines)
18. Speedo Healer (Potentially)
19. Changes to chassis (Potentially - Cutting out of side rails to suit exhaust, cutting of old engine mounts, welding of new mounts)
20. New Clutch cables (and maybe clutch M Cylinder)
21. New Accellerator cable (Potentially - maybe just different ends)
22. Airbox (Aftermarket or standard Bike)
23. Jetting kit (Not essential, but to get the best out of your CARB'd engine)
24. Interior Changes (Potentially - New tunnel top & Dashboard)
25. New Battery to Suit Bike (Just to save even more weight, Not Essential)
26. Modifications to Bodywork (Potentially - Cutting the bonnet to suit airbox, cutting side panels for exhaust and covering up previous exhaust cutout)
27. Threadlock, Nylocks and Nut's & Bolts

I think that's it, but I'm no expert so as above, feel free to add your own knowledge/experiences.
And for all those people that are thinking about it - go on... You know you want to

Steve

Hi, taking into account the new [relatively] SVA test, a method of reversing is now required, either a reversing gearbox [Dax] or maybe a starter motor engaging on an additional gear attached to the diff. input [MK]. Te Dax solution requires two new prop. shafts of course.

I am planning on converting mine to Bec in winter this year so am trying to gather all parts and info now.

Am i right in thinking that if I have a full Yamaha R1 motorbike, the only parts i will have to buy is the exhaust system, propshaft and prop adapter, everything else i can fabricate?.

Cheers

Bike onto transaxle

I am looking to put a bike engine into the rear of a little fiat 600d, has anybody already done this type of conversion, maybe into a different car?

...don't forget to add a lovely H-pattern gearbox, perhaps an old cast-iron unit, or stretching to a nice featherweight MT75.

Look for a Transit Di diesel, the perfect engine, a modern upgrade from the Pinto. Comes already attached to a suitable MT75, you could even use the live rear axle.

You can squeeze them anywhere really. Smart cars, minis, etc. Just a cradle, chain drive diff and IRS to sort which ain't simple to get working correctly

Please don't take this the wrong way,but how much mechanical experience have you got?

As you are taking on quite a lot of work converting to BEC,and asking questions like 'how do I route clutch and throttle cable' are a concern as they are probably the easiest part of the conversion to sort out!!!!!

Plenty, built my fair share of engines from my Escort Cossy, M3 to name a couple.

To you it may sound stupid but I haven't ever undertaken a job like this hence me asking as I will end up doing it the hard way when someone on here may know an easy way etc etc.

I ask plenty questions also just to see how others have done it.

I'll get the conversion done no bother but as I say it's good to ask questions.

There is no set way/route for cables to run really, as most cars are different to the next.
you just buy universal cables off eBay, and route them as you see best and solder on ends to match your pedal /clutch arm/throttle bodies
